Mobile Puzzle Games That AREN’T Totally Awful

Love puzzle games, but hate the mindless search for actually good mobile games? It’s so easy to find yourself scrolling forever just to find a halfway decent puzzle game that doesn’t bombard you with ads, in-app purchases, and unnecessarily easy/difficult levels. Here’s a list of some of the best mobile puzzle games for every level of puzzler!

Read to the end for a great tip in mobile gaming!

1. Twenty

Twenty is a game of matching numbers while trying to beat the clock. Once you match a number, they combine into one square, but only increase by one number. For example, if you combine 2 and 2, you get 3. Combine that with another 3, and you’ll get 4. The objective is to get all the way up to 20.

Sounds easy right? At first it’s very easy, but as the blocks continue to push up from the bottom of the screen and numbers get connected by black bars, they become increasingly difficult to move and find matches!

With a very simple design, minimal ads, and HIGHLY addictive game play, this game is a definite must-have!

You can play in single player mode or with a friend!

2. Picross Survival

Picross Survival is a classic nonogram puzzle, but with a story! Most nonograms are just a series of random pictures that you create by filling out the numbered grid. Picross Survival follows an adventurer as he survives a deserted island, weathers a perilous jungle, and treks across an unforgiving frozen tundra!

Picross Survival is great for anyone, no matter their experience with nonograms. From beginners playing the 5×5 grids, to experts with the 20×20 and no assistance! Jump in and explore new and exciting worlds while creating beautiful pictures using that glorious brain of yours!

3. Puzzly

The Puzzly app is a consolidation of some of the most popular puzzles in the world. If you get bored of one, you can just move on to the next one! Choose from 11 puzzle types (listed below) and unlock more as you level up.

Within each of the types there are hundreds of puzzles in Novice, Regular, Advanced, Expert, and Master levels. Go from a Level 1 Novice to a Level 500 Master in no time!

With daily and level rewards, you’re sure to come back often.

Here’s a list of the included puzzles:

  • Two Dots
  • Escape (Traffic Jam)
  • Blocks
  • Maze
  • Connect
  • Trace
  • Slice
  • Rope
  • One Stroke
  • Tangram
  • Plumber

4. Tiny Room

Tiny Room is a mobile escape room. Finding clues throughout an abandoned town to discover what may have happened to your father, the game uses 3D mechanics to view every side of this mysterious city. Many of the puzzles, riddles and logical steps are simple, but can get very challenging!

Each new discovery leads to another, which leads to another. With every piece of paper or random item found, the excitement and mystery builds, urging the player to move forward, unlocking the secrets and thrills that the game holds.

This is a fun game to play with family or friends, but also just a great way to spend a few minutes (or hours)!

5. 7 Little Words

Very similar to a syllacrostic, this word puzzle teases the brain with trivia and diced-up words. In the example above, the answer to “2. dilly-dally” is HESI-TA-TE (hesitate). There are three free daily puzzles as well as 50 free “Sunrise” puzzles, if you just can’t get enough! This puzzle is a great way to flex those word-loving brain muscles!

6. Einstein’s Riddle Logic Puzzles

This game is so much fun! Einstein’s Riddles, or logic puzzles, are one of the most common types of puzzles. Normally a word-only puzzle, a series of clues are given to narrow down which items belong to, or are categorized with, other items. In the first photo, we see the clue says, “The one who has a Detective Hat owns a Submarine.” That means that category 3, which we previously had as the submarine owner, now has the Detective Hat as well.

For anyone wanting to dip their toes into logic puzzles, this is a great place to start! With word clues and pictures in the grid it’s very easy to visualize what you are doing and why. Starting out small with 3×3 grids you can quickly get used to how the game is managed and what you need to look for to complete the puzzle. Once you get the hang of it, try your hand at the “Insane” levels with 9×12 grids!

7. Brain Plus

Brain Plus, another collection of different puzzles, is a great app for those that can’t make up their minds on which puzzles to play! The user-friendly interface and eye-catching color is a draw, but the exciting games and rewards are definitely what keeps you coming back. Here are the games you can get with this app:

  • 1Line Drawing
  • Lines
  • 2248
  • Merge Number
  • Fill
  • Number Rush
  • Sudoku
  • Pipes
  • Unblock
  • Memory Master

There you have it! A few great games to get you started on your mobile puzzling journey. Have fun!

Pro Tip! Love the games, but hate the ads? Put your phone on airplane mode while playing to get the full game experience while skipping out on all the annoying ads!
